The Chicago Marathon was on October 10. I've run maybe four or five times since then. I have all sorts of very compelling reasons for this:
- It's now dark out in the morning
- I'm tired
- The belt on our treadmill fried so when we use it, the entire house smells like burnt hair and rotten fish
- I'm tired (did I mention that one?)
This morning, I ran the Hot Chocolate 15k (9 miles) with my good friend Jess (aka Sassafrass). Despite my training schedule (or lack thereof), I did fine. My main purpose in running was to be there for Jess on her very first race, so I didn't have any goals for myself. It was very obvious to me, though, that I am no longer at peak form.
I know I need to get back to it. I am registered for the Walt Disney World Princess Half Marathon, and that is happening at the end of February. If I keep up with my current pathetic schedule, I will not make it the full 13.1 miles.
Our new treadmill arrives Monday morning, and on Tuesday, I'm going to start my training in earnest. I have 16 weeks to the race. My goals are to add in strength training, add in some kind of cross-training cardio (I am considering spin class or kick boxing - I have a membership to a local gym that I NEVER use) and possibly do some work with a personal trainer. Getting through the winter in Chicago is never easy, but making fitness goals does seem to help. And I bought some kick ass sub zero running tights that I can't wait to wear.
Anyone else set any fitness goals for this winter? Anyone else running the Princess half?
