The last day of Dylan's epic punishment

Dylan has this terrible habit of hazing our au pairs. We've worked through this before. I talk to her. The au pair talks to her. We all talk to each other. Hugs ensue, and life goes on. I'm not sure what changed this year. I suspect that Dylan's advanced age (almost nine! holy cow) has something to do with it, but this year, Dylan's hazing reached epic proportions. She was being lippy. She was being disrespectful. She was correcting every. single. English mistake that Vivi made (sometimes in writing - on a piece of paper titled, "Vivi's English lesson). I am surprised her eyes didn't get permanently stuck in a backwards position given the number of times she rolled them while making a dismissive comment.

Last week I officially lost my tolerance for the hazing. Stern talks and "come to Jesus" conversations were having no effect. I had to get serious. I took away all screens for a week. No TV. No iPhone. No DS. No Computer. The poor kid had to read, color, write in her journal and interact.

And you know what? This punishment stuff TOTALLY worked. She has been a beacon of sunshine all week. Fingers are crossed that the good behavior continues when screens return to her life tomorrow.
