Potty Training 101
There are a lot of reasons why I love my job. The primary reason is that it's my dream job. I get to read blogs, write blogs, explore various social networks, and then come up with fabulous ideas on how to use all of these tools to benefit my clients, most of whom are FOOD clients, and I don't need to tell you why that's perfect for me.
But, I also love the perks. The free ice cream on Fridays. The snack cart that comes right past my door every Tuesday and Thursday. Working in an awesomely large building that is frequently featured on posters and on TV shows. Oh, and getting free advice from a parenting expert who wrote a book on potty training. I think that's my favorite perk of all!
You see, I do work mostly with Edelman's food clients, but by some strange quirk of corporate organization, I also get to work on the Huggies Pull-Ups and GoodNites business. I LOVE this. I love this very much right now, because we are kind of under the gun to get Mr. Max out of diapers.
He has been at an absolutely wonderful little daycare center since April. There are only 5 kids there, the ratio is about 2-3 kids to each teacher, and it's just the sweetest place. The owner lives upstairs, and she is so loving. She loves Max to death, and it's been a godsend. He was there full-time for a while, and when Paty arrived, we switched him to 2 mornings a week. Well, now I kind of feel like it's time for him to move on. At that place, he's the oldest, and Michael and I feel strongly that he needs to start spending time with some older kids. The Montessori school that Dylan went to last year is for 3-6 year olds, but she will take 2.5 year olds on occasion. Provided they are potty trained. And she has an opening for Max in January. Cue the freaking out.
This morning, my colleagues put me in touch with Jan Faull, the potty training expert, and we had a great conversation. She indicated that Max's body just might not be ready yet (he tells me as soon as he has gone, but every time I put him on the potty, he doesn't do anything). That said, she thinks he's close, so she suggested that I put him in underwear every morning from 8:30 - 11:30 (the hours of the Montessori). He essentially needs to learn to make the connection between the feeling of having to go, and then actually going in the potty. So, every time he has an accident in his undies, we are to say, "Oops! You went in your underwear." Then, we put him on the potty for 30 seconds to help make the connection, and change him into clean clothing.
I'll be sure to keep everyone posted on the progress. This will certainly be interesting!!
