Late night carnivore

Max has been a crappy sleeper for most of his little life. He wakes up every couple of hours all night long. I'm almost done weaning him (down to one feeding a day), and have moved him into his crib, so I have been hoping that the slower digesting formula and the fact that I'm not laying right next to him smelling of milk would encourage him to sleep better. There was no change at all, until last night. Last night, he went to sleep at 8:15, woke up once at 3am for just 10 minutes, went right back to bed with no crying, and then slept through till almost 7am. Great, right? Well, yeah, but this happened to be the morning that I had to wake up at 4 AM (!!!) to go on a one-day business trip to Indianapolis. I didn't even get to appreciate the sleep!! Argh...

Anyway, I got home from the trip, picked up the kids, and got back to the house at about 6pm. After a quick bowl of mac & cheese, Dylan headed off to go see Curious George with Michael's mom, followed by a sleepover at her house. I got Max to bed by 8:15, and decided that I really needed a steak. Luckily, I had some very pretty boneless ribeyes, individually wrapped, in the freezer. I normally prefer the bone, but these were heavily discounted at Meijer last week, and were beautifully marbled, so I couldn't resist. Four steaks for $11.50 is an awesome deal, and I just love the rich, fatty flavor of ribeye.

I cooked it in my cast iron skillet with a touch of olive oil and a TON of salt and pepper. Awesome:

I also made a tossed salad. I used these great organic romaine leaves that are pre-washed and don't require any effort (a good thing since I hate cleaning lettuce):

Here's the salad. I used cucumber, red pepper and made a really nice lemon dressing with green peppercorn dijon:

Dessert was the perfect ending to this decadent, late night (for me) meal. Two mallomars and a big 'ol glass of Bailey's:
